Mon Repos Turtle Hatching Experience

Mon Repos Turtle Hatching Experience

Located on Queensland’s Bundaberg coast and just a stone’s throw from Don Pancho Beach Resort at Bargara you will discover one of nature’s wonders. The Mon Repos Turtle Centre is the only activity of its kind to get up close and personal with the fascinating life cycle of marine turtles.

Led by a Queensland Parks and Wildlife Services ranger, the Mon Repos Turtle Hatching experience takes guests on a guided twilight tour on the beach, providing a unique insight into the life of a Loggerhead turtle.

Nesting occurs from November to January each year, as the mother makes the journey to shore to lay her eggs. Six to eight weeks later, visitors can also watch the hatching process (January to March), as the young hatchlings venture back towards the ocean. This majestic experience will have you spellbound!

Mon Repos is not only home to the largest concentration of nesting turtles on the east coast of Australia, but is host to the biggest loggerhead turtle nesting area in the South Pacific. The centre is vital to the conservation of the loggerhead turtle, ensuring the endangered species remains protected.

Turtle hatching season runs seven nights a week from November 2016 to March 2017 and is an unforgettable opportunity for all ages.
