Not only located a short walk from Turangi’s town centre, the resort also boasts its own lineup of activities featuring a heated swimming pool, games room, mini golf course, table-tennis and onsite bar to name just a few.

There is no better place to base yourself as you explore all the Great Lake Taupo region has to offer.

The Great Outdoors

Turangi is the trout fishing capital of New Zealand. Anglers travel far and wide to wet a line in the trout-filled Tongariro River, with a range of charters available to take you to the region’s top spots. If you have no luck hooking your own catch, a visit to the Tongariro National Trout Centre is a must, with a museum, aquarium, hatchery and kids fishing pool to learn all about the local icon.

If you’re seeking a hiking adventure, take the famous 19.4km journey along the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, just 20 minutes south of Turangi. For something a little easier on the legs, there are a range of scenic short walks that give you the opportunity to soak up the beauty of the region. Stroll along the Tongariro River, between Omori and Pukawa, and journey up Maunganamu and around Lake Rotopounamu for some of the best sights on offer.

Family Fun

If you’re an adrenaline junkie but you have the family in tow, Turangi serves up something for everyone. In winter, hit the slopes at the Whakapapa ski area on Mount Ruapehu, just 40 minutes from Turangi Leisure Lodge. Mount Ruapehu attracts snow lovers from across the globe for the sheer quality of its snow as well as families due to the ideal conditions for skiers or snowboarders of all abilities.

With the Tongariro River at your fingertips, white water rafting is a popular activity. Guaranteeing a grade to suit the biggest thrill seekers or the littlest family members, no one has to miss out. With 604km of river to play with, there is more than one way to enjoy it. Hire a kayak and explore at your own pace or have a swim in the refreshing waters.

It wouldn’t be a trip to Turangi without experiencing the country’s iconic geothermal areas. Take an easy walk to the Tokaanu Thermal area and witness the natural wonder for yourself, and best of all, it’s free!
