Discover Perth’s Peel Region

Venture south of Perth and discover the Peel region, a diverse and enticing district of Western Australia that showcases the best the west has to offer.

Trade the hustle and bustle of the city for laidback beachside towns, coastal breezes, sweeping fields of wildflowers and a region that has a culture of its own. These are our top picks for things to see and do in WA’s Peel region.

Food & Wine

Known as the ‘tasty region’, you will find a treasure trove of award-winning wines and world-class dining. Boasting a cuisine from every corner of the globe, in both casual and fine dining settings, you’re guaranteed to find some of Western Australia’s best fare – paired with the perfect wines, of course.

What to taste: The West is famous for its fresh seafood. Find the finest and freshest oysters at Mandurah’s Oyster Bar while overlooking the breathtaking harbour. This restaurant has thought of everything, preparing the ocean delicacy in more ways than you can imagine possible. Not a fan of oysters? There is an extensive menu of other options to tempt your tastebuds.

What to drink: Peel Estate Wines is not only the largest but the oldest winery in the region. Whether its white or red, rose, sparkling or fortified, you will find it all alongside some of the most pristine views of the protected wetlands and Tuart forest country.

With a lively calendar of events, there is no shortage of things to see and do throughout the year. From weekly markets to jazz concerts, art exhibitions, children’s festivals and the annual Mandurah Crab Fest, there is something to excite every member of the family.

What to see: Travelling to the region in January or February? Catch the National Freestyle Series as the best kiteboarders from across the country battle the wind and the waves for the top title. Held from 25 – 28 January at Safety Bay and 24 February at Woodman’s Point, you can spectate from the sidelines as athletes perform tricks that defy gravity or head down to the beach and Have a Go at flying a trainer kite yourself at this Classic Holidays sponsored event.

Water

With the Peel-Harvey Estuary, a stretching coastline of beaches, inland creeks and the famous Murray River, you can choose your own water adventure in the Peel region.

For a high thrill experience, try jet skiing or white water rafting. For something more relaxing, hire a boat and wet a line or explore the waterways at your own pace aboard a kayak or Stand Up Paddleboard.

Where to swim: While there’s no limit to the places you can have a dip, Silver Sands Beach in Mandurah is a favourite amongst locals and travellers. Known as one of the area’s cleanest and safest spots for all the family to take a dip, it’s also strikingly beautiful and puts on a pretty spectacular sunset. To really top things off, you’ll find it just a short 5 minute stroll from Silver Sands Resort.
